Guildlines for End-Of-Year Examination
With the end-of-year examination drawing near, everyone has become more focused during lessons so as to prevent themselves from flunging their major examination. Here are some tips I have gathered so far to prepare myself for the examination.
Preparing for your exams
If you can, try to make sure you have completed your revision a few days before the actual exam, you can then put the last few days to good use by relaxing, gathering and checking the equipment needed for your exam. When you have done this try to do an extended relaxation technique for around an hour or so, this will leave you feeling refreshed for the next couple of days. It is also wise to avoid any stressful situations at this time such as a visit to the dentist or long journeys.
The morning exam
Make sure that you get up early and take a long hot shower then perform a short relaxation technique, avoid trying to cram in any more revision as this will only stress you. Make sure that you have breakfast before you leave even if it is only a small one, it will give you energy. Once you have had breakfast then make sure that you have everything you need well before the time you have to leave.
The afternoon exam
Try to relax throughout the morning and don't be tempted to do any more revision, make sure that you eat a light lunch and that you have everything you need together well before its time to leave. Sit down and relax, play your favourite music or watch a movie to take your mind off the exam and to make time pass more quickly. Make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to arrive at the exam and relax as much as you can in your seat and calmly arrange the items you need around you.
The exam paper
Read through the exam paper slowly then re read it marking questions to answer as you read through it, once you have gone through it then take another look at the questions you marked carefully. Be sure to highlight any sections that are compulsory and read instructions carefully. Most people will tackle the easiest questions first and this gives them confidence and gets them off to a good start, it also allows more time for the more difficult questions.
Some points to remember:
* Don't start answering questions without fully understanding them
* Focus your attention fully on one question at a time
* Choose words from the questions and include these in your answer this will link them together
* If a question is taking too much of your time then leave it and return to it at the end
* Always keep an eye on the time, but don't panic
* If you find that you are panicking and your mind goes blank then take deep breaths through your nose and out through your mouth
* Try to aim to finish around 10 minutes early and look through your answers and tidy up if you need to.

Learning Journey at Marina Barrage
HI guys, these photos are taken today at Singapore Marina Barrage. After a dreary long day in school, we get to go to the Marina Barrage to go and visit. This is also counted as our learning journey. Going to this interesting place allows me to know how seawater is being desalinated to NEWater. Also, many interesting facts that we do not know about can be seen in the air-conditioned gallery. So, enjoy the photo taken by class 3E1!!!
Cheers,

UDI days at HTA
Much anticipation on the September holidays was all in vain. This is because I had to go for the Unit Drill Instructor Course at Home Team Academy from 9 September 2009 to 12 September 2009.
The first day of my Unit Drill Instructor Course was the Gold Footdrill Assessment. It was not part of the UDI course which is supposed to start the following day. The Gold Footdrill Assessment requires us to teach the MOI (Method of Instruction) properly. The MOI was realtively as easy as ABC for me as I had tried the MOI before. I went through the test easily.
The next part was the commanding and the excecution segment. It was very simple because I just had a taste of being a parade commander just less than a week ago. Thus, I passed the Gold footdrill assessment easily and safely enter the UDI course officially.
The first day of my UDI course was filled with push-ups. Many groups got punished because of the lack of teamwork. My group was the worst. 2 cadets decided to play traunt and not attend the UDI course just because of a stupid reason - they do not want to cut their long hair. This lame action of theirs got our whole group into trouble.
We started the day off with the muster parade. After which, there was the training on how to conduct a parade, Water mist guns drills and how to use a pace stick properly. Also, what attracted me the most was the sword that is being used in a parade. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to use it till we become CLT or officers.
The entire afternoon was dedicated to practising the slow march and learning the flag drills. It was so tough that a cadet fainted during the course. That day, we had night training. It was only on how we can work as a team to plan out a parade. My group was entrusted to plan out the NCDCC inaugural parade. It was so fascinating to see that we managed to alter several parts and changed the layout.
The second day of the UDI course was mainly focused on the UDI assessment. The UDI was similar to the gold footdrill assessment in several ways, such as Commanding, execution and the MOI segment. The difference is that the standard and expectation were higher and that he commands were different.
Luckily for me, I passed the assessment at the end of the day and was a UDI. But all was not confirmed until the following day's parade which will officially invest us as UDIs.
The last day of the course was mainly parade rehearsals for the night's investiture parade as regonised UDIs. It was a very messy in the beginning. But after a few rehearsals, it turned out all right. However, after lunch, some cadets were not interested in learning the clow march. As a result, the black sheeps destroyed our hopes of a nice parade.
Finally, the parade commenced and within 45 minutes, the parade ended and we were officially UDI. It was a 4 long and dreary days at Home Team Academy. The training, though tough and tiring, but was fruitful in the sense that I had learnt something.
From the UDI, I have learnt values such as: perseverance, responsibility, etc. All these excellent qualities can aid me in achieving my goal of being the best person in terms of academic, conduct, etc.

Montfort NCDCC Investiture Parade cum Camp
disSeptember holidays, something which most of us anticipate before it, arrived and go like a flash of lightning!!!
On the eve of the September holidays, which is 4th September 2009, I went for the Montfort NCDCC annual camp in preparation for the following day, the Montfort NCDCC unit Investiture Parade. The camp was planned during the June holidays, but due to circumstances such as H1N1, the parade was postponed till 5th September 2009. After a short school day, I went home immediately to pack what I needed for the camp and dashed back to school. However, things did not turned out right for us as majority of the secondary 2 cadets went for CIP or Science Project. As a result, we were unable to carry out the parade rehearsals.
Using the quick-wittedness which all sec 3s have, we decided to play some team bonding games with the sec 1s. This is because the sec 1s had not really bond together ever since they joined NCDCC. the game turned out to be a joyous activity for all. Everyone had lots of fun and it was a success.
After which, we commenced the parade rehearsal from 4.30pm onwards till 6.50pm. The cadets were allowed to have a break till 7.30pm as it was the time when we started the dinner. The dinner was not very well-done as some of the cadets did not manage to have their meal properly.
After dinner, we resume the parade rehearsal and the scenario drill rehearsal all the way till 12am midnight. Though the training was not easy, no cadets muttered a single mourn. The preseverance which the cadets showed were amazing and it was something we should be proud of. Lights were out after we conducted the water parade (to ensure the cadets were well-hydrated and to minimise dehydration duringthe parade).
Throughout the night, very few Charlie members slept because of the freezing weather. Even the juniors who went to sleep earlier than us also woke up due to the cold wind. Time flies slowly as we were polishing our boots to allow time to fly past.
Finally, it was the morning. Everyone woke up at the break of dawn except me, haha, who slept at 6am in the morning. I woke up at almost 7.30am, which is 1 and 1/2 hour before the real parade. We had a final rehearsal before the actual parade so as to refresh the cadets' mind and not to mess up the parade.
After several rehearsals for preparation, the real parade finally commenced with me marching onto the parade square. I am the parade commander for the parade, as I am the Company Sergeant Major of Montfort NCDCC unit. The parade was a grand success and no one made themselves a laughing stock.
This was my most memorable parade ever. Maybe this was my last investiture parade? I thought so. Next year though i will be there, but my status is as a guest, not a parader. Thinking of this, I felt so sad.....
